ABOUT DOG RUN 87

* We are a group of dog owners who volunteer on behalf of the 87th Street Dog Run in Manhattan's Riverside Park.  We are proud of the sense of community that makes this dog run special, and we encourage anyone who wants to be active in the maintenance and improvement of the run to join us.

Like many other facilities in Riverside Park, Dog Run 87 is funded and maintained by people like you who use it and by neighbors who want to make sure that dog owners and non-dog people alike can all enjoy the park. The City and the Parks Department have neither the funding nor the staff to maintain all facilities in city parks.

We depend on everyone who uses this dog run to help maintain it and keep it clean and safe. This involves not only day-to-day work like pooper scooping, but also regular resurfacing, drainage, fence maintenance, tending trees and weeds, and various other tasks that come up.  It also means preventing fights, respecting rules, and helping new dog owners acclimate to the run. Finally, it means providing the necessary financial support to fund ongoing maintenance and capital improvement projects.

A core group of dog owners meet regularly to discuss ongoing maintenance, fund raising, and other issues, as well as to organize community events.  We invite anyone who’d like to get involved to come to meetings and/or to contribute your energy in any other way.
